The school has taken the difficult decision to not provide a Post-16 Level 3 A Level and BTEC offer for our current Year 11 students moving into Year 12 in September 2025.
This decision has been made as a result of significantly low applications to our Post-16 provision for September. This in turn will limit the school’s financial resourcing and challenges us to plan carefully about where we invest within the school. We of course want to continue to provide a high quality Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 and as a result, our offer of A Levels and Level 3 BTECs is a challenge too far for the school.
However, we are pleased to confirm that we will continue to provide our Level 1 provision for entry level students with high level special educational needs.
In addition, we will continue to provide a Level 2 pathway for our students who have not yet achieved 5 grades in their GCSEs or BTECs at Level 2. This Level 2 pathway will focus on gaining skills for the world of work so that students will be best prepared for moving into an Apprenticeship or on to a T Level the following year. During the year, students will complete the BTEC Level 2 Award in Workskills, an Asdan Level 2 certificate in Personal Effectiveness and a variety of work placements. There will also be the opportunity to re-sit either a GCSE or Functional Skills in maths and / or English should students not achieve a grade 4 in these subjects.
Should students be successful on this pathway and they wish to stay on at the school in September 2026, they will be able to progress on to one of the T Levels that we will be introducing in any of:
- On-site construction
- Digital production, design and development
- Education and Early years
